Welcome to the movement

For a people-driven healthcare system

Our healthcare system needs a fundamental transformation

There is no single factor that created the troubled healthcare system we have today. In fact, there were several factors and events over several decades. And there’s no shortage of ideas from politicians, pundits and professors for fixing it.

But we believe there is one necessary ingredient to successfully reform our healthcare industry: we must take back control of our individual health journeys.

The real problem

For much of the past 50 years, providers, payers (insurance companies and self-paying organizations) and the pharmaceutical industry have been calling the shots. And for many of these institutions, their often-unspoken priority is on serving the demands of their shareholders — primarily through increased revenues and profits.

Recently, many providers have been adopting a patient-centric approach, which promoted more consideration our experience as patients.

But it’s not enough, because it doesn’t change the basic fact that we healthcare consumers have very little control in our current healthcare marketplace.

“You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”

— Buckminster Fuller —

Creating a people-driven healthcare system

When healthcare consumers finally have real control over their entire health journey, we can finally reform and transform our entire health marketplace.

So how exactly do we make this transformation happen?

Ownership

The transformation starts by giving consumers full control over all their electronic medical and health records.

Tools

We must leverage resources and technology to put relevant and timely knowledge at our fingertips.

Community

We must build teams and communities to realize this change, but also to support us on our individual health journeys.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

— Margaret Mead

The people-driven healthcare manifesto

The rights and values of our movement.

Clarity

We have a right to clarity when given important health records and information.

Reliable advice

We must have personalized, data-driven insights to optimize our health and savings.

Ownership

We own our healthcare journey, from our health data to our healthcare decisions.

Powerful tools

We have a right to resources that will help us make optimal health decisions.

Control

We must control how all our health records are managed, used, shared and accessed.

Precision care

We have a right to consider and receive care personalized to our individual history and body.

Knowledge

We must have full access to the resources we need to make the right healthcare decisions.

Compassion

We have a right to professional but compassionate care from all providers.

Enabled by disruptive technology

Technology has allowed us to gain access to almost all our health records and data, and it now generates even more health and wellness data about each of us. And emerging technology, such as blockchain and machine learning, can make our movement’s objectives a reality.

Disruptive technology can sometimes seem scary. But just as with our healthcare industry, the key is to put consumers in control. By allowing consumers to decide and control how we use technology, we can finally create a truly people-driven healthcare system.

“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”
